The dating game has been playing out for many years now. The only aspect that ever changes is the arena in which the game is played. There is the traditional way of meeting someone at a common place of interest, striking up a conversation and moving towards eventual dating the other person. There is the fix up method where a friend attempts to fix a person up with someone deemed to be a “perfect match”. Through the years, the dating game has gone through bars, nightclubs and speed dating rounds in local restaurants. When these options fail to produce a suitable companion, an individual can now turn online.
There has been an overnight explosion of dating websites in the last two years or so. News stories frequently tell the stories of two individuals who met online and either achieved success or humiliating failure. There have been instances where teens have run away to meet a much older online companion. Unfortunately, there have been the instances where one person in the online dating relationship was killed by the hands of that “perfect match” sought online. For the most part, online dating sites have provided individuals with another option to make a romantic match.
One of the more popular online dating sites is eharmony.com. Now advertising on television, eharmony.com boasts that it has the highest matchmaking ratings of all online date websites. To further bring this point home, many of the television commercials feature couples who met and later married as a result of eharmony.com. Another popular dating site, match.com, features the simple statement “more than 500,000 people found love on match.com last year alone”. This would prompt an individual searching for online love to give this website a shot. There are a few slight differences between these two sites and others like them online. However, the main component is the same. Individuals looking for love who are too busy or perhaps too shy to do it the conventional way are heading online in hopes of finding that great love match.
