Is there any point in…?
Buying a stable rug?
I’m buying everything for my new pony hopefully within this and next week before she arrives, her previous owner said she has never worn a rug and she isn’t clipped (she is stocky and a very easy keeper), though I want to buy her a couple of light weights for her to wear when it’s extremely cold or snows. She is a New Forest so coped well without but anyway, she will be kept in during the winter nights and out during day, is there any point buying her a stable rug?
I want to buy her one incase it’s FREEZING and obviously she would probably get sweaty with a lightweight, but another thing I wouldn’t be able to turn her out weekday mornings (and I doubt the people who are will change her rug unless I pay).

Honestly, I think blankets/rugs for horses are overpriced and pointless. Horses in the wild do not have blankets put on them when it is cold or snowing, that is why their fur grows so thick and heavy. As long as the horses are able to eat and move around plenty, there is no need because that will regulate their body temperature and keep them warm. I was worried about it when I first got my mare, but she chose to stand out in the snowstorms and play instead of standing warm in her loafing shed with her blanket. She tore holes in it, broke straps, and just did not get along with it. They might shake and shiver, but again like I said if they have access to food and space to run they are fine.
