Should you ask for a raise?

If you feel you deserve a raise should you ask or should you wait for your employer to come around and give you one on their own? I’m just wondering people’s opinions on this. I just watched that millionaire matchmaker woman flip out on her employees over this (bravo tv).

there’s nothing wrong with stating plainly what you expect from your job, as long as you do it artfully and politely. if you wait for the stars to jump into your hand, you’ll be waiting for eternity. but you can always reach out and pluck one from the sky…

mention to your boss that you think that with the level of contributions you make to the company, you deserve a little bit more contributions back from the company. well. maybe not so bluntly, but you get the point.
